UK Student Visa

United Kingdom is known for the quality education it offers. Many aspire to go there for further studies. In order to fulfill those dreams, the aspirant must first have the so called US Student visa.

What is a UK Student Visa?

This type of visa will allow the applicant to stay in the United Kingdom to pursue his/her studies. There are several types of student visa that may be issued namely: child student, child visitor, adult student, student visitor and prospective student.

However, these types are commonly reduced to two, the adult and the child student.

Adult and Child Student Visa

The requirements will depend on the type of student visa you are applying for. The Child student visa may be given to those who plan to take up a course below the National Qualification Framework level 3. If the applicant wants to pursue a course that is at National Qualification Framework level 3 (or equivalent) or above and is longer than two years, he may be issued an adult visa.

Who may apply for a UK Student Visa?

In order to be qualified to receive a student visa, there are two requirements which need compliance. First, the applicant must undertake an acceptable course with an Approved Education Provider or a sponsorship. As proof, a visa letter or confirmation of acceptance for studies issued by the approved education provider should be submitted. Second, the applicant must have adequate financial resources to support his stay in the United Kingdom. A bank statement or letter confirming that there are enough funds available for the course fees and monthly living cost for up to one year, at the time the application was sent. The funds must be held in the bank account for a minimum of 28 days.

How to Get a UK Student Visa?

An applicant may either apply personally or online.

Online Application

If you have decided to apply online, you have to search the Visa Application Centres Overseas assigned for your place. You will have to fill up the application form provided and shall be required to submit original passport, supporting documents and the appropriate fees. The decision whether the application would be granted would fall on the UK Border Agency.

Personal Application

If you want to apply in person or when the Visa Application agency requires you to appear before their office, it is greatly advised that an immigration lawyer’s help be sought. The process would include filling up of a Student Application Form or the VAF3A DEC 2008 Form. The applicants will have to undergo Biometric Data Collection. Fees will be collected and may be paid online, through banks, depending on your local Visa Application Centre.

What if the Application was rejected?

When you are notified that your application is denied, the proper remedy is to ask for an Administrative review. It may be made within 28 days from the date of receipt of the refusal notice .
