Student Visa to Canada
Canada is known for the quality education it offers. It is also known for its expertise in teaching the English and French language. However, an individual who is neither a citizen of nor a permanent resident is not allowed by Canadian law to study there.
Application
The individual aiming to obtain a Canada Student Visa must see to it that he is eligible. The applicant should be able to convince the officers of the responsible visa centre that he has complied with the essential requirements of the application. He must be able to submit:
Proof of Acceptance, which states that he has been admitted by a school, college, university or other educational institution in Canada;
Proof of Identity, namely photos, passport and other travel documents; and
Proof of Financial Support, for the purpose of evidencing that he has sufficient funds to support himself during his stay, tuition fees and transportation.
Documents supporting the absence of a criminal record and good health are also essential. The above requirements shall be submitted to the responsible visa office in the locality.
The applicant makes use of the herein checklist given by Citizenship and Immigration Canada to complete the documents necessary:
Duly accomplished Application for a Study Permit( IMM1294)
Use of Representative (IMM5476) ( if applicable)
Valid passport or travel document that will guarantee re-entry to the issuing country
Photos
Proof of acceptance
Proof of funds
Fee payment in acceptable format
Statutory Declaration of Common-law Union (IMM 5409) (if applicable)
Some Visa Centre may also require other documents to be submitted along with the above requirements. It would mainly depend on the region where the applicant resides.
The visa centre would decide based on the documents sent. If these documents are not sufficient to formulate a conclusion, the visa officer may request for an interview. If the visa officer resolves the application favorable to the applicant, he will send a letter of introduction. This letter implies that your application has been decided favorably, but the letter is not equivalent to a study permit.
Along with the letter of approval, the visa officer may also issue a Temporary Resident Visa. This visa is issued in favor of citizens of countries exempted by Immigration and Refugee Protection and Regulations of Canada.
Arriving Canada
Upon arrival to Canada, an officer of Canada Border Services Agency will greet the applicant. It is the CBSA Officer who may issue the student permit. Prior to issuance of the permit, he will inquire into the completeness and genuineness of the documents the applicant have. Aside from the possession of the required documents, the applicant must also prove to the CBSA officer that he met all the requirements of Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Regulations.
The CBSA officer will stamp on the passport the period of time the applicant is allowed to stay.
